Ex-Immigration Officer Arrested For Attempting To Sell Sophisticated Weapons To Bandits

The dismissed officer, whose identity was not disclosed, was apprehended following an intelligence-led operation by the police.

Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intercepted a former immigration officer who was attempting to sell advanced firearms to bandits operating in the Abuja-Kaduna forests

The dismissed officer, whose identity was not disclosed, was apprehended following an intelligence-led operation by the police.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, the Officer in Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Mustafa Mohammed, said the operation successfully prevented the arms from falling into criminal hands.

“Acting on intelligence, the command intercepted these guns from a dismissed immigration officer attempting to sell them to bandits terrorising the Abuja-Kaduna forest,” Mohammed stated.

“The intelligence was received in time, and the arms were seized while he was making the delivery.”

Among the weapons recovered was a Scorpion CZ EVO3, a fully automatic firearm equipped with an inbuilt silencer, capable of firing in single, automatic, or burst mode. The police also recovered 52 rounds of ammunition.

Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, disclosed that 300 suspects had been arrested in various raids conducted from January 1 to February 28, 2025.

The arrests included 59 armed robbers, 10 kidnappers and informants, 16 cultists, and others involved in violent crimes.

“In a bid to rid the Federal Capital Territory of crime, the Command has intensified operations, targeting criminal hideouts across areas such as Dei-Dei, Karu, Gwarinpa, Jikwoyi, Karimo, and Maitama,” Disu stated.

“Abandoned buildings used as criminal bases will also be continuously monitored and raided.”

The police reaffirmed their commitment to making Abuja and its environs safer, urging residents to report suspicious activities promptly.
