BREAKING: Explosion Rocks Abuja-Area School: One Student Killed, Four Injured In  Suspected IED Blast

The incident, which occurred on Monday, reportedly involved a substance suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED).

Abuja, Nigeria– An explosion at an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyu community, located in Bwari Area Council, about 42 kilometers from Abuja city center, has claimed the life of one student and injured four others.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, reportedly involved a substance suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED).

It was gathered that the deceased student, whose identity remains undisclosed, was carrying the device when it detonated.

Premium Times reports that emergency and security personnel, including the police bomb disposal squad, have arrived at the scene of the explosion. Injured victims have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

According to a security source, “The deceased student, whose identity remains unknown, was carrying a substance suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED) when it detonated, injuring other students and causing chaos in the school.”

The source further revealed that the affected students had recently been admitted to the school, resuming on January 3, 2025.

Attempts to reach school authorities for comment have so far been unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the police have yet to issue a statement on the incident, leaving details of the explosion unclear.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, were unsuccessful, as multiple calls to her line did not connect.
