Court Remands Ooni’s Ex-Queen, Oriyomi Hamzat, Others Over Ibadan Stampede
The stampede occurred during a children’s funfair organized at the Islamic High School in Bashorun, leaving several families in mourning.
Ibadan, Oyo State — A Chief Magistrate Court in Iyaganku has ordered the remand of three individuals in connection with the stampede at Bashorun Islamic High School that claimed multiple lives last week.
The defendants include the school’s principal, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi; media proprietor and owner of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat; and Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife.
Presiding Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi ruled on Tuesday that the suspects be remanded at Agodi Correctional Center, following their arraignment on a four-count charge.
The charges, presented by the police prosecutor, cite violations of Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

The accused had been in police custody prior to their court appearance, which was marked by heavy security and the presence of concerned relatives and sympathizers.
The court directed that the suspects remain in custody pending legal advice from the state prosecutor. Further hearings are expected as investigations into the incident continue.
