I Have No Regrets Removing Fuel Subsidy — Tinubu

If we fail to act decisively now, we risk a financial disaster that will affect not just us.

Abuja, Nigeria- President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s decision to remove fuel subsidies, stating he has “no regrets whatsoever” about the policy.

Speaking during a broadcast, Tinubu explained that the move was necessary to protect Nigeria’s economic future and prevent financial collapse.

“We cannot spend the investments meant for future generations today,” the President stated. “If we fail to act decisively now, we risk a financial disaster that will affect not just us, but our children and grandchildren.”

Tinubu noted that removing the subsidy was part of broader reforms aimed at redirecting resources to critical sectors like infrastructure and social programs.

“This is not about fear or hesitation; it’s about doing what is necessary,” he said. “We have expenditures, but insufficient revenue. Allowing neighboring countries to benefit from our resources during festive seasons while we struggle is unsustainable.”
