Tinubu Approves Free Nationwide Train Services For Christmas, Renames University Of Abuja

The Federal Government has renamed the University of Abuja as Yakubu Gowon University to honor the former Head of State.

Abuja, Nigeria President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved free nationwide train services to ease transportation during the Christmas season.

The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, made this announcement on Monday while briefing journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by the President.

According to Idris, the free train services will run from December 20, 2024, to January 5, 2025, as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to support Nigerians during the festive period.

In a separate development, the Federal Government has renamed the University of Abuja as Yakubu Gowon University to honor the former Head of State.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, provided updates on the 2025 Appropriation Bill.

Edun disclosed that the budget discussions focused on fostering private sector participation to drive economic growth.

The Minister of Information also confirmed that Monday’s FEC meeting was the final session for the year, with the council set to resume on January 6, 2025, following a recess starting December 18.
