Anambra Police Arrest Native Doctor, Accomplice For Kidnapping, Robbery

During the operation, security forces recovered a pump-action rifle, the victim’s vehicle, and other items, including ropes and horsewhips believed to have been used in the crime.

Akwa, Anambra State- Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested two suspects, including a native doctor, in connection with kidnapping and armed robbery activities in the state.

The arrests followed the rescue of a victim near Abagana Girls Secondary School on November 22, 2024.

Acting on the victim’s testimony, a joint operation by police officers and local vigilantes led to a raid on the shrine of a native doctor in Uru, Abagana.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed that the suspects, identified as 30-year-old Ikechukwu Okafor and 38-year-old Nweze Chijindu, were taken into custody.

Two other suspects, Supuluchukwu Nweze and Sunday Nwakanze, remain at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.

The statement read, “Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was lured to the location by a phone call allegedly initiated by Sunday Nwakanze. The victim was abducted at gunpoint, dispossessed of valuables, and transported to a shrine where he was restrained using ropes and had his mouth sealed.

“The two suspects confessed to the crime and are currently assisting the Police with information for possible arrest of other gang members.”

Ikenga assured all that the command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Anambra State.
