Ondo Prophetess Arrested Over Death Of Mother, Newborn In Church
The victim, identified as Jumoke Adesuwa, reportedly suffered severe bleeding due to childbirth complications. Without medical intervention, Adesuwa bled to death.
Akure, Ondo State- The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a self-proclaimed prophetess, Mrs Folashade Adekola, in connection with the death of a woman and her newborn during childbirth at her church in Akure.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at Adekola’s church in the Oke-Aro area of the state capital.
The victim, identified as Jumoke Adesuwa, reportedly suffered severe bleeding due to childbirth complications. Without medical intervention, Adesuwa bled to death.
However, her newborn child also did not survive the ordeal.
According to Punch, a source revealed that someone from the church contacted the deceased’s husband to inform him that his wife had delivered a baby. The husband quickly alerted a family member, and together they rushed to the church.
He explained, “When we arrived, they told us the baby had died after childbirth, but the mother was alive. However, when we saw her, she was lying in a pool of blood, bleeding heavily. We rushed her to a nearby hospital.
“Unfortunately, she was rejected at three hospitals due to her condition, and she passed away at the fourth hospital as they tried to revive her. To our shock, when we returned to the church to collect the baby’s remains, we found the mother’s body in a room. The room’s condition was deeply concerning; it didn’t resemble a proper delivery room at all.”
Meanwhile, the suspect was apprehended by officers from the command after the deceased’s brother reported the incident at the police station.
The spokesperson for Ogun State Police command, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the arrest, stating that the prophetess was taken to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
“The case was reported by the deceased’s brother, that the sister died after childbirth in the church and the prophetess is already in custody. Investigations are still ongoing,” she added.
