Benin, Edo State– Monday Okpebholo was sworn in as the new governor of Edo State, along with Dennis Idahosa, who took the oath as deputy governor.
The swearing-in ceremony was held on Tuesday at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the state capital, attended by dignitaries, supporters, and officials from across Edo.
The Chief Justice of Edo State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, administered the oaths of office, formally ushering in Okpebholo and Idahosa as the state’s new leadership team.
In his inaugural address, Okpebholo pledged to uphold the state constitution, promote policies for economic growth, and improve the well-being of Edo’s citizens.
However, former Governor Godwin Obaseki was absent from the ceremony, a rare departure from the traditional handover protocols in the state.
The new administration is anticipated to focus on key sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, and youth empowerment, as they begin a new chapter in Edo’s governance.
