IGP Egbetokun Orders Immediate Withdrawal Of Police From Rivers LG Secretariats

The order comes in response to recent political developments in the state.

Port-Harcourt, Rivers State– The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the immediate withdrawal of police personnel from the 23 local government secretariats in Rivers State.

This directive was confirmed in a statement released on Monday by the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko.

The order comes in response to recent political developments in the state.

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Bala Mustapha, communicated the IGP’s decision, ensuring the swift removal of officers who had been deployed to seal and safeguard the local government offices.

The statement emphasized that the decision “is in line with the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure neutrality and the smooth functioning of democratic institutions.”

It further clarified that personnel will only be redeployed to those areas if there was a crisis or breakdown of law and order, at which point emergency measures would be swiftly implemented to restore normalcy.
