Kano Police Arrest 26 Phone Snatchers, Recover 126 Stolen Phones

Kano State– The Kano State Police Command has arrested 26 phone-snatching syndicate members and recovered 126 stolen mobile phones in the state.

In a press release issued on Thursday, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, spokesperson for the command, disclosed the progress made in combating mobile phone theft and related crimes.

Items recovered during the raids included 21 syringes containing pot wine, 20 sachets of diazepam tablets, 600 pieces of exol tablets, and three parcels of suspected Indian hemp. The operations also resulted in the seizure of two cutlasses, two scissors, one long sword, and two computer laptops.

According to the police spokesperson, the operations, which were carried out between 1st to 12th September 2024, were aimed at addressing the remnants of the menace of mobile phone snatching/robbery bedevilling some parts of the State Metropolis.

“The suspects are currently undergoing discrete investigations at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), thereafter will be charged to court for prosecution. The recovered phones will be returned to their rightful owners after proper identification and verification as all machinery have been put in place to trace the owners,” he said.

“The Commissioner of Police commended the officers and men involved in the operations for their professionalism and dedication. He also appreciated the cooperation and support of the public, which led to the success of the operations.

“The CP warned that the Command will continue to crackdown on all forms of criminality, including mobile phone armed robbery/snatching, and also urged residents to keep reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the following mobile phone numbers; 08032419754, 08123821575 or 09029292926.”
