Joe Biden Withdraws From 2024 Presidential Race Amid Party Pressure, Nominates Kamala Harris

Washington DC, United States – President Joe Biden on Sunday announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

The decision comes amid mounting pressure from within the Democratic Party, with concerns over his health playing a significant role.

Biden, who has served as the 46th President of the United States since January 2021, has faced increasing scrutiny over his ability to handle the rigors of another term in office

President Joe Biden says he is not seeking reelection in a letter posted to X on his official account.

Biden says he will speak to the nation later this week in more detail.

He said, “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President.”

“And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Biden’s decision is also likely to raise questions about his ability to fulfill the duties of the presidency for the remainder of his term.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden has backed his vice president, Kamala Harris, to take his place as the Democratic Party’s nominee for the presidential election.

The 81-year-old said earlier it was in the “best interest of my party and the country” for him to stand down.

He thanked Mrs Harris for being “an extraordinary partner” before backing her to take the party’s nomination.

In a statement shared on X, he said: “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year.

“Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”

He also shared a link for supporters to donate to Mrs Harris’ campaign.
