UNILORIN Expels Postgraduate Student Over Alleged Sexual Assault

On October 25, 2023, he was served his letter of expulsion and consequently expelled from the university

Ilorin, Kwara State– The University of Ilorin has expelled one of its students, Mr. Mathew Adeboye Balogun, also known as “Plato” over allegations of misconduct that violate the institution’s code of ethics.

Mr. Balogun, who held Matriculation Number 14/25OD062, was a student pursuing his academic endeavors at the prestigious university.

Mr. Balogun, a Master’s student in the Department of Counselor Education within the Faculty of Education at the university, faced expulsion due to his proven involvement in the alleged sexual molestation of vulnerable students and prospective admission seekers at the institution.

This was contained in an expulsion notification letter issued by the University’s Student Affairs Unit, bearing the reference number: UIL/SAU/SAO/2024/01, titled, “Re: Allegation of Misconduct against Balogun, Mathew Adeboye”, dated Wednesday, January 3, 2024 and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Student Affairs, Mr. Moses Opaleke, copy of which was made available to journalists.
The letter stated, “Kindly recall that the social media was set agog with the report of sexual molestation by Balogun, Matthew Adeboye Matriculation number 14/25OD062 (aka Plato)”.

“Subsequently, he was invited to appear before the Student Disciplinary Committee on October 16, 2023, which he did not honour.

“At the second sitting of October 19, 2023, of the Student Disciplinary Committee when he showed up, he admitted to the second charge against him for misconducting himself in such a way that he took unlawful and undue advantages of vulnerable students and admission seekers by sexually molesting them under the pretense that he could influence their results and or offer them admissions into the university, contrary to Clause 3(a) viii, 3(b) and 4(k) of Students’ Information and Regulations Handbook.
