Abuja, Nigeria– Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has ordered the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to be remanded in Kuje prison pending the determination of his request for bail.

During today’s court proceedings on November 17, Emefiele received a ruling that he will be held in custody until November 22, pending the hearing of his bail motion. Mathew Burkaa SAN, his lead counsel, submitted the bail application, while Rotimi Oyedepo strongly contested it on behalf of the Federal Government.

Following the presentation of arguments both in favour and against the application, Justice Muazu expressed that a bench ruling could not be provided due to the numerous legal authorities cited by the two parties.

The judge said that he required some time to review the legal authorities and examine the arguments presented by Emefiele in support of his bail.
