Ilorin, Kwara State– The Kwara State Government on Tuesday launched the disbursement of support funds for over 20,000 beneficiaries, encompassing petty traders, widows, and other indigent residents, as part of its commitment to social protection in response to the recent removal of fuel subsidies.

The intervention is managed under the state’s social safety net program, led by the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP).

In a statement by the General Manager, Dr. Tejidini Abdulwasiu Olayinka, in August, said over 13,000 citizens benefited from the government’s support funds in the initial phase. This new phase includes 1,569 widows, 1,611 petty traders, 12,500 youth participants in the Kwara public welfare program, and an additional 5,071 individuals identified under the safety net.

Dr Tejidini explained that the palliatives highlight Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s unwavering dedication to the welfare of the people and the overall development of the state.

“The Governor has approved the disbursement of fresh support to give a raise to the petty traders and provide relief to the indigent. We are determined to walk through this time with our people. He is deeply committed to ensuring help gets to the deserving, especially in the underserved communities in the state,” the statement said.
