Dutse, Jigawa State – Sheikh Aminu Baba Waziri, a respected Islamic cleric, has called upon lawmakers to enact a law that would require civil servants on Level 12 to consider marrying additional wives.

The cleric made this appeal during a sermon at the Takur Commercial Mosque in Dutse, Jigawa State.

Sheikh Waziri argued that, given the ample number of eligible women in society, it is essential for men to contemplate taking multiple wives for the betterment of the community.

He expressed concern that, despite the availability of women, including widows and unmarried individuals seeking marriage, men, particularly those who are already married, are not embracing the idea of additional wives.

In his sermon, Sheikh Waziri emphasized the significance of marriage in Islam, highlighting that both the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated the importance and value of institution in the eyes of Allah.

Citing the Holy Quran, he said: “Allah says in Chapter 4:3 “You fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four; but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or that which your right hands possess. That will be more suitable to prevent you from doing injustice.”
