KWSG Approves Temporary Opening Of Tanke Flyover For Unilorin Convocation

Full-scale construction work on the flyover will resume on October 24

Ilorin, Kwara State – The Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transport has announced that the BABATUNDE Idiagbon Flyover Bridge at Tanke will be temporarily open for public use from Monday, October 16th, to Tuesday, October 24th, in light of the forthcoming University of Ilorin convocation ceremony.

This is contained in a statement issued by the  Press Secretary for the Ministry of Works & Transport,  Sam Bola Onile, on Saturday, October 14, 2023

“During this period, only the section of the flyover extending from Tanke Junction down to the University of Ilorin gate will be accessible to the public.

According to the statement, the partial opening is to ensure the safety of all road users, as some construction work is still in progress. The section of the bridge from Area F to Pipeline Axes will remain closed during this time.

Mallam AbdulQuawy Olododo, the supervisory commissioner for the Ministry, emphasized that the temporary opening is intended to facilitate smooth traffic flow as the state anticipates a significant influx of visitors for the University of Ilorin convocation.

“To manage traffic and ensure the safety and unhindered movement of people, officials from the Kwara State Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) will be deployed in the area during this period.

Mr Olododo urged the general public and other road users to cooperate with the deployed traffic officials to ensure the safety of everyone, especially as some construction activities will continue during this temporary opening.

He said Full-scale construction work on the flyover will resume on October 24 after the convocation concludes.
