22-Year-Old Man Burnt In Failed Attempt To Vandalize Transformer Cables In Niger State

Minna, Niger State- A 22-year-old man, identified as Tasiu Danlami, sustained severe burns while attempting to vandalize electricity transformer cables belonging to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to the Niger State Police Command, Danlami and his accomplice, Abba Salisu, were in the process of tampering with the high-voltage cables when the incident occurred.

SP Wasiu Abiodun, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement, stated that the pair’s attempt at cable theft ended in disaster when Danlami was electrocuted, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

 

Abiodun added that Salisu managed to flee the scene, but Danlami was apprehended and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The statement read, “On 10/10/2024 at about 0545hrs, Police operatives of Tafa Div with vigilante members, while on routine patrol within Hayin-Nasarawa area along Abuja-Kaduna Expressway via Tafa, arrested two suspects identified as; Tasiu Danlami 22yrs and Abba Salisu 18yrs of the same area.

“The two suspects attempted to vandalize AEDC transformer cables within the community, which led to severe burn injury of Tasiu.

“He was taken to Musa Yar’Adua Hospital Sabon-Wuse for treatment, while Abba was taken into custody with an industrial cutting plier.

Abiodun added that the suspects are under further investigation in Tafa Division.
