Ilorin, Kwara State– The Kwara NG-CARES For MSMEs program is gearing up for the commencement of its 2nd phase, with plans to disburse operational cost grants to 5,545 nano, micro, and small-scale businesses across the state.

Dr. Abdulwasiu Olayinka Tejidini, the Acting General Manager of KWASSIP, lauded the initiative as a crucial intervention intended to provide relief and enhance the capabilities of state MSMEs in the wake of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and its disruptions to regular commercial activities.

Dr Tejidini expressed his gratitude to His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Kwara State Government for consistently supporting the MSME sector and coming to the aid of vulnerable businesses.

Mrs Rukayat Yahaya, the Acting Technical Head of Kwara NG-CARES For MSMEs, announced the inclusion of NANO Businesses in the 2nd phase of the program, designed to benefit a wide array of MSMEs. A total of 21,432 applications were received from across the 16 local government areas in the state for the 2nd Phase.

Following a rigorous eligibility criteria vetting process, 12,032 applications met the requirements, while 9,399 were unsuccessful. Physical verification plays a crucial role in ensuring fairness and confirming the existence of these eligible businesses. It also prevents non-existent businesses from benefiting from the grants.

She urged beneficiaries to utilize the funds received for essential business operations, such as rent, staff salaries, and utility bills. Importantly, she emphasized that beneficiaries should not offer any kickbacks or facilitation fees to anyone, as the selection process was fair and transparent.

Meanwhile, beneficiaries were reminded that KWARA NG-CARES For MSMEs would not request their account or ATM card details.

According to her, the 2nd phase of the Kwara NG-CARES For MSMEs program reaffirms the commitment of the government to support and strengthen the vital micro, small, and nano businesses that are the lifeblood of the state’s economy.
