2027: Makinde Declares Presidential Bid, Unveils PDP-APM Alliance In Ibadan

Ibadan, Oyo State– Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, unveiling a new political alliance between the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) as part of what he calles a “national reset” agenda.

Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during a massive political rally in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where supporters and party loyalists gathered to witness the announcement of the coalition aimed at challenging the ruling establishment ahead of the next general election.

Speaking before a cheering crowd, the governor said Nigeria’s worsening economic and political conditions had made it necessary for opposition forces and ordinary citizens to unite in order to rescue the country.

“Without a multi-party system, democracy cannot exist. Where is our multi-party system? What are our next steps?” Makinde asked.

He accused sections of the opposition of pursuing selfish interests while Nigerians continue to grapple with hardship, insecurity and economic uncertainty.

“We have been pushed to our limits. The self-serving opposition may not come together, but I am here to say that the real opposition is the everyday Nigerian,” he declared.

According to him, the newly formed PDP-APM alliance would field candidates across all levels of government, including the presidency, governorships and state assemblies.

“This is our moment to make sure Nigeria works for everyone. It’s time to face our challenges head-on. Let’s engage as active citizens rather than passive observers,” Makinde said.

The governor called on opposition parties across the country to close ranks and build a united front capable of confronting the challenges facing Nigeria.

“For the political parties in opposition, now is the moment to come together and collaborate for our country’s much-needed reset,” he stated.

Referring to Ibadan as the “city of warriors,” Makinde described the PDP-APM partnership as the beginning of a broader coalition movement ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The time to refresh Nigeria is here. Ibadan is known as the city of warriors. The first major alliance has been created. The PDP and APM have joined forces,” he said.

“This partnership will enable us to present candidates for positions ranging from the presidency to the state assembly.”

He then officially announced his ambition to contest for Nigeria’s highest office.

“Therefore, I announce my candidacy for the office of president of Nigeria,” Makinde declared to loud applause from supporters at the rally.
