The former Kwara State Chairman of the Young Progressives Party YPP Charles Olufemi Folayan has made a formal public declaration to contest for the house of representatives seat.
Mr Folayan has signified interest to represent the good people of Irepodun/Isin/Ekiti/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency.
According to him, he has been participating in active politics since 2007 and had supported many candidates for elections.
He said his decision to contest was propelled by his passion for the development of his people and communities at the grassroots.
“My decision was propelled by my passion for the development of our people and communities at the grassroots. Having lived the first fifteen years of my life in the constituency, I know exactly what the situation is and the activity to be carried out, in other to address the various challenges facing the people through the opportunities which would be available to me as a member of the House of Representatives, when elected”
Mr Folayan expressed disappointment in people who he said pretends to get votes of the masses but failed to deliver on their promises.
“I am contesting for this office not because it’s very convenient, but because my colleagues and I have decided not to continue to use our energy, creativity, and network to install mediocre and selfish people who get our support and votes under the pretense that they have the interest of our people at heart. We have resolved to do it better by ourselves for the people”.
He said, He is contesting on the platform of the Young Progressives Party YPP which he said was founded to give opportunities to credible Nigerians especially the young people with the capacity, competence, and character needed to render service to the people through politics.
“By the grace of God, I am contesting on the ticket of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), in line with the aspirations of the youth, women, and men of our constituency, to push forward our struggle for political and economic liberation. I was among the young Nigerians who founded and registered the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in 2017, served as the pioneer National Publicity Secretary of the party in 2017, National Youth Leader in 2018, and the Kwara State Chairman of the party from 2020 to April 2022”
“YPP was founded to give opportunities to credible Nigerians especially the young people with the capacity, competence, and character needed to render service to the people through politics. The aim is to impact value and achieve good governance. It’s not only moral but also patriotic for me to serve my people through this platform. My aspiration in YPP would not halt my relationship with friends and associates in other political parties. I would continue to collaborate and partner with them when necessary”
“I’m here to make a difference. I’m here, not to use political power to oppress, but to emancipate the people”
“I believe that democracy cannot be called “democracy” if it does not put food on the table of the last person in every community. I have set out my plans and manifestoes on programs and projects that would address major challenges facing our people such as poverty, unemployment, poor education, insecurity, infrastructural decay, poor social welfare, economic hiccups, lack of federal presence and destruction of cultural values”
However, he expressed confidence that the 2023 general election would be the true reflection of the will of the people and every attempt to manipulate would be countered at any level.
